Probably there's just something not completly correct within my disorted cubes patch (was my first try to write code for irrlicht) not quite sure if it's a general problem.

This mod contains the API only for adding your own mobs into the world, so please use the additional modpacks to add animals, monsters etc. there are some rendering glitches with entity blocks within the same map node block. MOBS REDO for MINETEST Built from PilzAdam's original Simple Mobs with additional mobs by KrupnoPavel, Zeg9, ExeterDad and AspireMint. Probably having 8 ones would be fair enough for a first try
orientation wouldn't be that easy, as you can't do a translation to the animal you would need to have an animal "model" for each orientation.
